KEALAKEKUA — The Kona Historical Society held a special baking of Portuguese Cinnamon Rolls for Fat Tuesday, also known as Shrove Tuesday.

The rolls, baked in the stone forno oven, pay homage to the days of the sugar plantations when Portuguese Catholics would celebrate the day before Lent by eating sweeter foods before the 40-day fasting season prior to Easter Sunday.
